Technology Repair Log
Reason for Obtaining: I decided to purchase a vintage mixer after my modern Walmart handheld mixer ceased to work when the plastic gears broke, and could not be repaired, as detailed here. I really liked the mixer AxeltheFoxy Techworld (on Youtube, which I use Invidious or Tor to watch) had. I decided to purchase the same mixer. Repair: This mixer was sold as working, however, when used to mix anything longer than a few minutes or anything harder such as cream cheese, the mixer would get really hot and make a very loud high-pitch squealing sound. Initially I was nervous to repair this, as I've never been inside a mixer before. However, after being inside the mixer for a number of hours, I've become really familiar with how it works and its pieces, and am no longer nervous to repair it. I suspect the loud squeeling sound was due to the grease in the gearbox being 60 years old. It was very dry. I cleaned this old grease out, added new, food-safe grease. I also replaced the cord, as the original cord was not grounded. I soldered a new cord in. I also replaced some parts inside the mixer. Usage: This experiences use at minimum, once a week. I cook all meals at home daily, and I use this mixer for things such as pancake batter, cookie batter, and cake batter. I love baking, and this is a great mixer for baking. I do not use it to knead bread dough, as it does not have dough hooks, and I prefer to do bread dough by hand. |
